10-man Shooting Stars Sports Club was too hot for Beyond Limits to handle as the Oluyole Warriors claimed the 12th Optima Energy Gold Cup with a 2-0 win.
The final match decided at the Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne, saw the Ibadan soccer lords show the stuff of Warriors, holding the enterprising Beyond Limits lads.
As expected, the young boys, buoyed by the presence of their fans, who cheered them on, took the game to the Stars, but the experienced Oluyole Warriors were able to neutralise all their efforts.
Impressive midfielder, Abubakar Aliu, put 3SC ahead in the 33rd minute as he calmly converted a spot kick after Olaniyi Fasanmi was.brought down in the opponent’s dangerous area.
The Warriors held onto the lead till the end of the first half.
Beyond Limits got an advantage of numerical strength at the start of the second half, after team skipper, Muritala Tiaye was given the marching.
The energetic Shooting Stars however made nonsense of the numerical advantage as they took the game beyond the homers in the 73rd minute via central back Desmond Ojietefian, who headed in Aliu Abubakar’s well tailored free kick.
The triumph brings to an end the Oluyole Warriors’ search for the trophy, having previously lost in the final on three ocassions.
