Lawmaker representing Ibadan South East/North East federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Rep. Abass Adigun, popularly known as Agboworin, has appealed to Nigerians against engaging in violent activities in the forthcoming #EndBadGovernance protest on August 1 – 10.

Agboworin, in a statement signed by his Media Group over the weekend, urged citizens to demonstrate peacefully to express their grievances towards the current unbearable hardship in the country emanating from high cost of living, fuel scarcity, insecurity among others.

He added that peaceful protest would avert the repeat of #EndSARS protest of year 2020, where young people across the nation took to the streets calling for the end of Police brutality with excessive force, including gunfire, which resulted in death and serious injuries.

The lawmaker, who is also chairs the House Committee on Narcotic Drugs, emphasised the need for corrective measures to set the country on the right track towards economic development, prosperity, and improved welfare for citizens through good governance and accountability.

He, however, urged the FG-led government to actively work towards implementing effective policies aimed at alleviating the challenges faced by the citizenry, bringing relief to all Nigerians.

The statement read, “I like to urge Nigerians, ahead of the planned nationwide protest against hardship in the country, to be peaceful about the exercise.

“Yes, it is the fundamental human rights of every Nigerian to engage in protests, but there should be limitation to how far they can go in their demonstrations.

“Protesters should ensure that the activities do not disrupt public order or violate the rights of others. There were groups in history who have held peaceful protests that brought about change. We should never again experience the #EndSARS scenario where protests were hijacked and led to loss of lives and properties.

“Having said that, the Federal Government rise up to the occasion and speedily work towards implementing effective policies aimed at bringing relief to all Nigerians.”
