The Iyaloja-General of Oyo State, Princess Folashade Abeo, has mourned an illustrious son of Oyo town, Prince Ajibola Afonja, popularly known by his company’s name, IDS, who passed away on Sunday night.

A statement signed by his Media Aide, Mr Rahmon Alawode and made available to journalists in Ibadan, indicated that Iyaloja received news of the passing of the former Labour Minister and Chairman of First Bank Nigeria with rude shock.

Abeo equally, in her condolence message, described IDS as a great father, adding that the he brought immense pride and honor to the nation as a former minister under the interim government of Ernest Shonekan.

She recalled the countless times he had gone to him for advice and guidance, and how he watched her grow into a wise and kind woman.

Princess Abeo added that though Pa Afonja’s death will leave a void that will be difficult to fill, his spirit of generosity and leadership will continue to inspire the younger generation.

The statement read, “I am shocked to hear the news of Pa Ajibola Afonja, which came to me as a rude shock.

“No doubt, Baba was a great father to me. He was so supportive to my course. His death is a big loss and very painful. It indeed got me so sad.

“His contributions to the town were immeasurable. He was a shinning star among his peers. The memories of Pa Afonja will keep lingering because of his unwavering commitment to the well-being of others.

“At this moment, I share in the grief with the family members, friends and associates he left behind. I am really so sad.

“I pray that God would rest his soul.”
