The Member representing the Ibadan NorthEast/South East Federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Rep. Abass Adigun, popularly known as Agboworin, on Tuesday, called for massive support for the candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), so as to retain all positions in the forthcoming local government elections in the state.

Agboworin, who is also the Chairman of House Committee on Narcotic Drugs, made the appeal when he hosted the leadership of the market traders and artisans in the two local governments within his constituency.

During the meeting, which held at the residence of the Babaloja-General of Oyo State, Alhaji Y.K Abass, Agboworin appealed to the market leadership to go back to their various markets and inform other traders to come out en masse to vote for the chairmanship candidates, vice Chairmanship candidates and councillorship candidates contesting for different positions in the party on Saturday.

He assured them that, by so doing, the unprecedented achievements of Governor Seyi Makinde across the state will be sustained, adding that their labour would not be in vain, but be duly rewarded at the appropriate time.

Agboworin said: “My mothers and fathers, I appreciate our coming here this afternoon. And let me repeat it here that I need your support for our candidates in the PDP on Saturday. We are all aware that we will be voting that day.

“Please, come out and tell others to also get themselves involved in exercisingvtheir civic responsibility. Don’t just sit down at home. The PDP, as a party, is so much dear to me because without PDP, there cannot be Agboworin.

“In the 12 wards we have in South East and another 12 wards in North East, let us come out on that day and vote for the candidates of the PDP and I am sure that your efforts will not be in vain.”

Similarly, Agboworin promised to install solar-powered lights in the remaining few markets that are yet to get the same benefit like other markets before the end of the year, so that they can trade in the night to further boost their sales.

“Let me use this opportunity to assure you that I will light up the remaining few markets that need to be illuminated. We have done that in some markets during the first phase of the project. In the second phase, I will make sure that those markets that are yet to benefit will get it soon.

“I want you a to be able to sell your markets at nights so that you will get more profits instead of your closing your shops and going going home when it is getting dark.

“This will happen before the end of this year as it is already in the budget. By the time we are done with other things involved, I will get back to you soon on it,” Agboworin stated.

Speaking earlier at the meeting, the Babaloja-General of Oyo State, Alhaji Y.K Abass, commended Agboworin’s immense support for the market traders in his constituency, saying that “indeed, you are a wonderful son of the Soil.”

He further spoke glowingly of the lawmaker in terms of fulfilling promises and delivery of dividends of democracy, praying that God will continue to support and uphold him to do more for the people.

President, Oyo State Market Leaders’ Council, Alhaji Dauda Abiodun Oladepo, in his closing remark, hailed the lawmaker for always giving support and contributing to the growth of  market traders in the state.

“We are really proud of you and what you are doing for us in the market and your constituency in general. You are one of the very few among the fourteen House of Representative members in Oyo State, who takes the interest of the people at heart.

“You don’t joke with them. You reach out to them always and make life easy for them in your own little way. Agboworin, may God continue to help you.”
