…..Calls for a thorough investigation to curb future occurrences
Oyo Global Forum (OGF) has condemned the attack on the Oyo State Governor’s office and Oyo State House of Assembly Complex, Secretariat, Ibadan by suspected O’odua Nations Agitators.
It would be recalled that some masked men in army camouflage with rifles suspected to be Yoruba Nation Agitators on Saturday stormed the Oyo State Government Secretariat.
In a statement released and made available to Heritage Echo News on Sunday, the forum Publicity Secretary, Mojeed Agboola, said Oyo Global Forum condemns in the strongest possible terms the invasion of the Oyo State Government Secretariat and House of Assembly Complex in Ibadan on Saturday by an armed group purportedly seeking the secession of Yourbaland from Nigeria.
The statement reads; “We strongly warn against any action by any group that would lead to the erasure of the substantial peace and stability we have enjoyed in the state. Freedoms of expression and association remain fundamental rights in the country, but nobody should resort to violence in pursuit of any agenda”.
OGF commends the effective interagency collaboration, involving the army, police, Amotekun, and government security advisors, that led to the foiling of the attack and the arrest of the armed people.
“However, the style of the invasion and the use of military camouflage with badges suggest they had been organizing without detection and preemptive actions. This calls for the need to enhance intelligence gathering and use capabilities of our security and intelligence system”.
“We call on His Excellency Governor Seyi Makinde and the security establishment to ensure a thorough investigation that would not only lead to lawful consequences but also help counter such violent tendencies moving forward”.
