In a bid to improve education in his constituency, the lawmaker representing Ibadan NorthEast/SouthEast federal constituency, Hon. Abass Adigun Agboworin has distributed another batch of educational materials to both Primary and Secondary School Students within his Constituency.
Presenting the millions worth of materials to head teachers and stakeholders on Monday, the lawmaker said, the gesture is part of his 2023/2024 projects to improve teaching-learning in the areas.
Agboworin said he decided to carry out the gesture to improve education in the area, and also reduce the financial burden on parents of students at this crucial period.
The materials distributed to beneficiaries include; school bags, writing materials, exercise books, and government-approved civic education textbooks for the JSS 1 to JSS 3 students.
Agboworin, who chairs the House Committee on Narcotic Drugs, during the presentation of the materials, which was held at the Lagelu Grammar School, Oremeji, Ibadan, in his welcome address, noted that the motive was to encourage young students in his constituency to take education as an important tool for their personal development.
He reiterated his commitment to aiding the improvement of education and assisting the downtrodden in the federal constituency.
While emphasizing his past achievements in education, healthcare, security, infrastructure, and empowerment, he assured the constituents that he wouldn’t relent in ensuring the people enjoy the dividends of democracy through physical projects.
He said: “I want to thank you all for coming to this event today. We can see that this hall is filled because we are doing very well as far as the reports we are getting are concerned. And we will continue to do well for our people.
“When I was voted into office in 2019, I came in with a five-point agenda, which I know is vital. So, today, this is one of the things I am bringing to my constituency. We have done a lot when it comes to education, health, security, and infrastructural development of our communities, which we are using to touch the lives of our primary and secondary school students.
“We are giving these thousands of materials to primary and secondary school students drawn from different schools in Ibadan North East and Ibadan South East Federal constituency.
“We are also giving government-approved textbooks on Civic Education to Junior Secondary School students 1 to 3, which we want them to put in their libraries. So, it is not about me but what I can do for my constituency. Their parents voted for me to be in this position and I must do the needful.
“So, I must say this is the beginning of good things. I want to assure you that I will do more in the education, security, infrastructure, and health sectors. I am also promising that more borehole projects and solar lights will be installed in our communities as well as the erection of more security gates.”
Similarly, Agboworin used the opportunity to urge participants at the gathering including party leaders and members, to give necessary support for the PDP in the forthcoming local government election in April.
“This is PDP doing this for you. We have a local government election coming up and I want you all to support all the candidates of our party by coming out en masse to vote for them. As a party, we are doing very well but we still need to come out to support them on election day.
“So, I hope others will also emulate this kind of gesture to support the efforts of the governor at the state level for the betterment of the good people of the state.
The Special Adviser to Oyo State Governor on Federal Constituency Matters, Hon. Dare Adeleke, while speaking at the event, appreciated the efforts of Agboworin and commended his sterling performance, saying “his actions are worthy of emulation.”
He described the distribution of the education materials as a ‘distinguished and God’s project’, which will go a long way in motivating the students to take their studies serous.
Hon. Adeleke, while maintaining that the people of the federal constituency are enjoying the quality representation of Agboworin, noted that the lawmaker has, no doubt, given to the people much more than he has given himself.
He, however, called on other representatives and all appointees of government, who have been honored by the governor to occupy different political positions, to emulate Agboworin by also giving back to the people.
Also speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Education of Oyo State, who joined in presenting the materials to the beneficiaries, Professor Saliu Abdulwaheed Adelabu, expressed gladness over the development.
