Oyo State Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Barrister Seun Ashamu has expressed his excitement for witnessing Governor Seyi Makinde’s assent to Oyo State Electricity Regulation Bill into Law. The formal signing of the Bill took place on Friday, February 9, 2024.
According to 2023 Electricity Act signed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the bill aimed at attaining energy sufficiency in the state.
Governor Makinde, while speaking at the official signing of the bill highlighted that the step exemplifies the working of a true federating unit, reflecting a commitment to empowering local communities.
Governor Makinde noted that his assent to the bill marks pivotal moment for state’s energy infrastructure and governance.
FreshPage recalled that Governor Makinde is collaborating with the British American Tobacco (BAT) Ibadan plant to ensure energy sufficiency and sustainability in the state. Oyo has joined the Lagos, Edo and Kaduna among states that have electricity market laws and can regulate their market.
The joyous Energy Commissioner, Barrister Ashamu said; ‘’with the foundations we laid during the first term in office we expect to take full advantage of the constitutionally devolved powers.
