In a matter of urgent public importance, Hon. Adebayo Babajide Gabriel, representing Ibadan North II, has called on all regulatory agencies to urgently enforce safety precautions, especially in handling and storing explosives.

This call comes in the aftermath of the explosion that rocked Old Bodija area of Ibadan on Tuesday.

The devastating explosion occurred at Adeyi area of Old Bodija, leaving scores of residents injured and claiming the lives of three people. The impact of the blast was felt 15km apart, affecting various residential areas and government buildings in Ibadan.

Acknowledging the swift response of Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, Hon. Adebayo commends the efforts of security agencies, emergency management agencies, and the governor’s commitment to offset hospital bills for the injured and provide alternative accommodation for those displaced.

Expressing concern over the possible causes of the explosion, Hon. Adebayo raises critical questions about the storage and handling of explosive devices, emphasizing the need for a thorough investigation and holding the culprits accountable.

The resolution passed by the lawmaker includes commendations for emergency response agencies, appeals for federal government intervention, calls for security agencies to secure the blast site and conduct intelligence gathering on other potential risks.

Additionally, regulatory agencies are urged to enforce safety precautions in handling explosives, and there’s a call for a review of the number of filling stations and gas plants in residential areas.

The lawmaker’s motion aims to ensure the safety of residents and prevent future incidents while emphasizing the need for environmental protection measures.
