A chieftain of Peoples Democratic Party in Oyo state, Chief Luqman Oyebisi Ilaka, has condoled the family, government and people of Ondo State on the death of the former Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu.

Akeredolu, according to a statement by the Ondo State Government, died in the early hours of Wednesday, December 27, 2023, while receiving medical treatment in Germany.
He reportedly succumbed to complications arising from prostate cancer.

Ilaka, in a statement on Thursday, described late Akeredolu as an extraordinary individual, a beacon of courage, who was admired for his unwavering patriotism and selflessness.

“It is with great sadness that I learned of the passing of H.E. Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu CON (SAN).
“The nation mourns with his family and celebrates his indelible marks in public service.
“Aketi was loved by many, a true believer in justice and fairness – a course he towed dearly to the very end. Amongst many, he was a voice of reason, one whose counsel resonated well and often brought succor.
“Gov. Rotimi Akeredolu became a darling to Yoruba people of southwest Nigeria when he led five of the six governors in the region united under him to launch the Western Nigeria Security Network (WNSN), known as Amotekun”, he said.
The Oyo former Chief of Staff further stated that having late Akeredolu as a brother and friend was an honour and that everyone who was with him was always surrounded by his warmth, candour, and generosity of spirit.
“I send my deepest condolences to Governor Rotimi Akeredolu’s family and the people of Ondo state at this difficult time. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Goodnight Aketi”, the statement read.
