Midnight fire inferno has razed down a section of popular Maya market in Lanlate, Ibarapa East local government leaving traders in the market perplexed.

According to Western reports, the Speaker, of Oyo State House of Assembly, Honourable Adebo Ogundoyin confirmed the inferno in a post via his official Facebook paghoursrly hour of Friday, December 22.
Ogundoyin, who represents Ibarapa East state Constituency at the State House of Assembly paid an on the spot visit to the market to assess the level of damage caused by the fire.

According to Ogundoyin’s Facebook post, the fire was caused by an power surge from the electric transformer which serves the community.

The lawmaker equally noted that the fire has completely destroyed the transformer as residents of Maya community are now in darkness due to the incident.
While sympathizing with the traders who have lost goods worth millions of naira, Ogundoyin assured that the situation would be tabled before the Governor, Seyi Makinde while also promising to urgently do something about restoring electricity to the community as soon as possible.has sympathized with traders and members of

Ogundoyin’s Facebook post read: “I was at Maya Market, Lanlate in Ibarapa East Local Government to inspect a section of the market gutted by fire.
“Shops and stalls including goods were completely burnt in the inferno while the electric transformer serving the entire community was also destroyed thereby throwing the whole Maya community into total darkness.
“This has no doubt paralysed socioeconomic activities of my people in Maya.
“While appreciating God that no one died in the fire incident, I sympathised with the traders on the loss of their goods and properties and i assured them that the incident will be brought to the attention of the Governor.

“I equally promised that something urgent would be done on the transformer in order to restore power back to Maya Community.”
Meanwhile, Ogundoyin yesterday played host to the Controller of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Oyo State, AbdulRaheem Olubamiji Salami in his Agodi Secretariat office in Ibadan.
The visit according to Ogundoyin, who is also the Chairman, Nigeria Conference of Speakers was a familiarization visit with the 10th Oyo assembly and to seek ways of deepening collaborations towards enhancing activities of Nigeria’s Correctional Centers.
Confirming the visit in a post on his official Facebook page yesterday, Ogundoyin said: “I received in my office today the Controller of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Oyo State, AbdulRaheem Olubamiji Salami who came to familiarise himself with the leadership of the 10th Oyo State House of Assembly and to discuss possible ways of collaborating with us towards enhancing the activities of our Correctional Centre.

“He expressed concern over the congestion of our Correctional Centers in Agodi, Ibadan and Lagbondoko in Oyo town.
“In my remarks, I described the issue of overcrowding of our Correctional facilities as a national problem.
“I told the Controller that the Oyo State House of Assembly Committees on Judiciary and that of Women Affairs and Social Inclusion will work with the leadership of our Correctional Centers in Oyo State on ways of reviewing some obsolete provisions in our criminal laws especially as regards resolving some minor cases and payment of compensation by convict as well as ways of ensuring speedy dispensation of justice.”
