All hail the maiden edition of the GSM/Elegant football competition in Ido local government areas of Oyo State, which fosters a spirit of sportsmanship, discovering talents, and aims to support the sports development agenda of His Excellency, Engr Seyi Makinde.

The competition had in attendance the executive chairman of Ido local government, Hon Sheriff Adeojo, former commissioner for women affairs Alhaja Aje Iya, Alhaji Ayuba, PDP party chairman Ido, Alhaji Fatai Adelakun (Ward 07 Party Chairman), ANCOPPS Chairman Ido, Local Inspector of Education, Spectators and several others.

GSM/Elegant game featured 27 secondary schools all within the Ido council area while the competition’s final match was between Community High School and Bako Community Grammar School, held at Elenusonso pitch, Ido council area, Ibadan.

During the highlight of the game Alawode Ayomide of Community High School, Elenusonso emerged as the hero of the game, as he scored the only goal of the encounter on a bright note swooping the other side on lone goal.

Speaking shortly after the winners emerged, organizeriser of the events, Mr. Adedamola Olajide (a.k.a. Elegant) emphasized that Secondary school football is crucial to discovering building talents, more attention to secondary school football will boost the sports in rural areas and shore up infrastructural growth that will, in turn, enhance the quality of education. and sports development
Elegant further asserts that today’s final of secondary school football competitions would serve as a model of how developed football programs in secondary schools could produce soccer stars for local, State, and international leagues.

“Secondary school students possess unique talents, and if properly nurtured and coached, they can meet international standards. My NGO (Elegant) will assist these young individuals in pursuing their dreams,” he stated.
Also in his speech, the Executive Chairman of Ido local government, Hon. Sheriff Adeojo commended the maiden edition of the GSM/Elegant football competition aimed to foster the spirit of sportsmanship and friendship among the secondary school students at the grassroots level.


Ayomide won the Best Goal Scorer in the competition with a prize of Five thousand naira, while Ibrahim Sodiq won the Competition’s Best Player and Adewuyi Abeeb with Best Goalkeeper of the tournament. Philip Simeon also went home with the Youngest Player Award.

Sodiq, Abeeb, and Simeon also received five thousand each as a result of their outstanding performance.

The trophy was presented to the Champions with a cash gift of One Hundred thousand naira (#100,000) to Community High School, Elenusonso, and Fifty thousand naira (#50,000) and twenty-five thousand ( #25,000) respectively to Bako Community Grammar School and Bode-Igbo School as consolation prizes for being second and third winners in the competition.
Equally, the Champions, runner-up, and third position were given brand new Jersey with the PDP logo as take home.
