…Says intervention will strengthen student leadership, mobility and grassroots engagement across Oyo

The Federation of Oyo State Students’ Union (FOSSU) National Council has commended the Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, for approving the distribution of electric motorcycles to student leadership structures across the state.

The students’ body described the initiative as a significant intervention to enhance mobility, coordination, and effective engagement among student leaders, while further demonstrating the administration’s commitment to the welfare and development of students in Oyo State.

As part of the initiative, the FOSSU National Council received two electric motorcycles on Friday, September 11, 2026, while the Presidents of the five FOSSU Zonal Councils across the state also benefited from the distribution.

The National Council said that including the zonal leadership structures underscored the broad-based nature of the intervention and reflected the government’s recognition of the important role student leadership plays in representing students and facilitating communication between the student community and government.

In a statement signed by the National President of FOSSU, Ahmed A. Mufutau, the organisation described Governor Makinde as a “student-friendly Governor,” noting that the latest intervention was consistent with the administration’s previous efforts to support student leadership and improve the welfare of students across the state.

According to FOSSU, the provision of electric motorcycles would offer practical logistical support to student leaders, particularly in the discharge of their responsibilities and coordination of activities across different institutions and zones.

The students’ body also expressed appreciation to the governor for the administration’s continued commitment to the Oyo State Students’ Bursary Scheme, particularly the approval and payment of bursaries in previous cycles.

FOSSU said the bursary intervention had provided financial relief to thousands of students and demonstrated the government’s understanding of the economic challenges confronting students and their families.

The National Council further recalled the administration’s earlier provision of buses to student leadership structures, describing the latest distribution of electric motorcycles as another indication of sustained government support for student organisations.

“The provision of the buses and, now, electric motorcycles reflects a consistent pattern of support rather than a one-off intervention,” the statement noted.

FOSSU maintained that the significance of the interventions goes beyond the material value of the items provided, stressing that they represent practical investments in student leadership, youth development and the future of the state.

The students’ body said effective student leadership remains an important component of building responsible young citizens capable of contributing meaningfully to the social and economic development of Oyo State.

It therefore assured the Oyo State Government of the continued cooperation and constructive partnership of the student community, while expressing its readiness to support initiatives aimed at promoting education, youth development and inclusive governance.

The FOSSU National Council also appreciated members of the Oyo State Government and the governor’s team for their efforts in advancing issues affecting students, with special commendation to Hon. Olojede Victor Dideoluwa for his continued contribution to matters concerning the student community.

The council reiterated its appreciation to Governor Makinde for what it described as his “exceptional commitment” to students and his administration’s various interventions in the education sector.

FOSSU said the latest gesture had been well received by students across the state and would further strengthen the relationship between the government and the student community.

The statement concluded that sustained investment in students and young people remains a strategic investment in the future of Oyo State.
