Goods and household items worth millions of naira were destroyed in a fire that destroyed shops in Ibadan, Oyo State capital.
Heritage Echo gathered that the incident occurred on Saturday at Block 9, Police Barracks training school, Eleyele, Ibadan.
The fire incident was a result of an electrical upsurge from affected a shop and set the shop on fire.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Fire Service Reform/Agency Chairman, Hon. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande, confirmed the incident to our correspondent.
He said “the Agency’s officers, led by Assistant Chief Fire Superintendent (ACFS) Oyeniyi promptly responded to the scene.
“Upon arrival, it was one(1) out of a row of five (5) pre-fabricated shops was engulfed in flames, with thick smoke billowing from the affected shop.
The fire crew immediately commenced firefighting operations, preventing the fire from spreading to the nearby shops and properties.
He said, no casualty was recorded. The fire incident was as a result of an electrical upsurge from the affected shop and ignited a nearby combustible and set the shop on fire.
The Agency was able to save properties worth billions of naira.
Residents applauded the Governor of Oyo State Engr ‘Seyi Makinde for providing state-of-the-art equipment to the State fire service in responding to emergencies.
Equally, Akinwande, urged members of the public to remain vigilant and fire-conscious at all times.
He encouraged the traders to install fire extinguishers in their respective shops.
