The Forum also congratulated Governor Seyi Makinde for what it described as the sustained growth of democratic values and political inclusiveness in the state, noting that the emergence of credible candidates across political parties reflects the maturity of Oyo State’s political environment.

In a statement jointly signed by the Forum Coordinator, Alarape Kabeer Imam, and the Secretary, Azeez Waheed Emiloju, the group particularly lauded the emergence of Engr. Muftau Open Salawu was appointed as the deputy governorship candidate of the APM, describing the decision as a strategic move capable of strengthening the party’s chances in the forthcoming election.

According to the statement, Salawu’s emergence did not come as a surprise considering his years of active engagement in community development, grassroots mobilization, and commitment to public service.

The Forum noted the combination of ‘Bimbo Adekanmbi and Engr. Salawu, as represented on the APM ticket, embodies a blend of experience, competence, vision, and grassroots appeal necessary to drive meaningful development and responsive governance in Oyo State.

“We warmly congratulate Engr. Muftau Open Salawu on his emergence as the deputy governorship candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement.

His nomination is a testament to his dedication, leadership capacity, and unwavering commitment to the progress of Oyo State.

“We equally commend the leadership of the APM for demonstrating political foresight in assembling a ticket that reflects inclusiveness, competence, and a genuine understanding of the aspirations of the people. We believe the Adekanmbi/Salawu ticket possesses the qualities required to offer purposeful leadership and deepen democratic governance in the state,” the statement read.

The Forum further stated that the political development signals a new chapter for the opposition party in Oyo State, expressing optimism that the ticket would enrich political discourse and provide voters with credible alternatives ahead of the 2027 polls.

It stressed that democracy thrives when citizens are presented with competent leaders and diverse political options, adding that the emergence of credible candidates across party lines should be encouraged in the interest of good governance and sustainable development.

The Supervisors’ Forum also used the opportunity to commend Governor Seyi Makinde for maintaining relative political stability in the state and creating an atmosphere where democratic institutions and political actors can operate freely.

According to the group, while political parties may differ in ideology and strategy, the collective goal should remain the advancement of Oyo State and the welfare of its people.

The Forum called on political stakeholders, party faithful, youths, women, and other interest groups to embrace issue-based campaigns and avoid actions capable of heating up the polity as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.

It further urged political leaders to prioritize the interests of the people above personal ambitions, emphasizing the need for policies and programmes that address unemployment, infrastructure development, economic growth, education, healthcare delivery, and youth empowerment.

Reaffirming its commitment to grassroots development and good governance, the Forum pledged to continue supporting initiatives that promote accountability, transparency, and people-oriented leadership across the state’s 33 local government areas.

The group expressed confidence that with the right leadership and collective efforts of all stakeholders, Oyo State would continue to witness progress and remain a model of democratic development in Nigeria.

It subsequently wished ‘Bimbo Adekanmbi and Engr. Muftau Open Salawu embarked on a successful political journey and prayed for wisdom, strength, and guidance for all leaders working towards the continued growth and prosperity of Oyo State.
