Properties worth millions of naira, including four vehicles, were destroyed in separate fire incidents that occurred in Ibadan and Ogbomoso axis of Oyo State over the weekend.
The first incident occurred at a mechanic workshop located in the Akingbade area along Old Ife Road, Ibadan, where four vehicles and a container were engulfed by fire on Saturday evening.
Heritage Echo confirmed authoritatively that the blaze spread rapidly within the workshop, destroying valuable property before emergency responders arrived at the scene.
Confirming the incident, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Fire Service Reform and Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service Agency, Hon. Maroof Adebayo Akinwande, disclosed that firefighters, in collaboration with personnel of the Federal Fire Service, swiftly contained the inferno and prevented it from spreading to adjoining structures.
According to him, firefighters discovered upon arrival that a container and four vehicles had already been engulfed by flames, with thick smoke billowing from the affected area.
“The fire was promptly brought under control by personnel of the Oyo State Fire Service, thereby preventing further damage to nearby properties,” Akinwande said.
He attributed the cause of the incident to sparks emanating from an engine compartment, which ignited combustible materials within the workshop.
“No casualty was recorded. The firefighting operation was jointly carried out with the Federal Fire Service, Ibadan Command,” he added.
In a related development, a separate fire outbreak also razed a shop and part of a residential building at No. 5, Ile Atagbonrin, Stadium Area, Ogbomoso, on Saturday.
The fire reportedly affected a prefabricated shop attached to a six-room residential building, destroying property valued at millions of naira.
Akinwande, who also confirmed the Ogbomoso incident, said firefighters responded promptly to the emergency call and successfully curtailed the spread of the fire.
Despite the extensive damage recorded in both incidents, no loss of life was reported. Authorities have reiterated the need for residents and business owners to observe safety measures and promptly report fire emergencies to relevant agencies.
