The Association of Local Government Chairmen in Oyo State has felicitated with Oyo state residents, Nigerians on the celebration of June 12 Democracy Day, describing the date as a symbol of the people’s determination, resilience, and commitment to democratic values.
In a statement jointly signed by the Chairman of the Association, Hon. Sikiru Sanda, and the Publicity Secretary, Hon. Ibrahim Akintayo, the council chairmen reaffirmed their commitment to promoting good governance, grassroots development, and the ideals of democracy across the state.
The chairmen noted that June 12 remains a significant milestone in Nigeria’s democratic journey, representing the strength of the people’s voice and the sacrifices made in the pursuit of a government that reflects the aspirations of citizens.
While commending the efforts of the Oyo State Government in ensuring the safety and security of residents, the council chairmen expressed solidarity with the ongoing efforts to rescue the abducted children and teachers of Orire Local Government Area.
They stated that the state government was taking necessary steps towards securing the safe release of the victims, adding that local security forces and other relevant stakeholders were also contributing their efforts to support the rescue operation.
The association assured residents that the local government administrations across Oyo State would continue to work closely with security agencies and the state government to strengthen peace and security at the grassroots level.
The chairmen further called for unity and cooperation among residents, urging citizens to remain supportive of ongoing efforts aimed at protecting lives and property across the state.
