Says Loyalty to Makinde Remains Unshaken, Pledges Support for Party’s Chosen Candidate

Hon. Olugbenga Ayinde Adewusi, popularly known as “Arole,” has officially withdrawn from the race for the Ibadan North East/Ibadan South East Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives following the intervention of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

According to sources close to the development, the decision was reached after a meeting in which Chief Obasanjo reportedly advice Arole to step down from the contest in the interest of unity, peace, and political harmony within the party structure.

The elder statesman was said to have emphasized that Governor Seyi Makinde remains his political mentee and committed to fairness among loyal party stakeholders.

Speaking after announcing his withdrawal, Arole reaffirmed his unwavering commitment and loyalty to Governor Makinde, stating that his decision was taken out of respect for Chief Obasanjo and in the collective interest of the party.

Arole further explained that his initial decision to join the race was part of a political strategy aimed at ensuring that the political space was not left vacant for the alleged PDP Wike faction to exploit.

He added that Chief Obasanjo clarified during their discussion that Governor Makinde was not aware of the arrangement and political calculations behind the move. According to Arole, Baba Obasanjo stated that after observing that the motive behind the political move did not align with Governor Makinde’s political strategy, and that the governor was unaware of the decision, he advised him to immediately withdraw from the race and support Governor Makinde’s political movement.

He further declared his readiness to support any candidate endorsed by Governor Makinde.

Arole noted that his political ambition has always been driven by service to the people and not personal interest, adding that party unity and stability must supersede individual aspirations.

The development has since generated reactions among party faithful and political observers across Oyo State, with many describing the intervention as a strategic move aimed at strengthening cohesion ahead of future political engagements.

Party supporters in Ibadan North East and Ibadan South East Local Government Areas have also commended Arole for what they described as a demonstration of maturity, loyalty, and respect for party leadership.
