Oyo Youth Groups Reaffirm Confidence in Makinde, Ogundoyin’s Leadership

Youth groups under the Oyo State Agency for Youth Development have passed a vote of confidence in Seyi Makinde and the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Debo Ogundoyin, citing what they described as “visible transformation” and inclusive governance across the state.

The groups, representing registered youth organisations across the 33 Local Government Areas of Oyo State, made their position known in a joint statement, saying their endorsement was based on “verifiable facts” and the “undeniable impact of governance.”

“This declaration is not driven by sentiment, but by verifiable facts, visible transformation, and the undeniable impact of governance that has repositioned Oyo State on the path of sustainable growth and inclusive development,” the statement read.

The youth groups said the Makinde administration had demonstrated a leadership style that prioritises the welfare of citizens, adding that the government had shown that “governance can be humane, strategic, and forward-thinking.”

According to them, “from rescuing the state from economic stagnation to laying a solid foundation for prosperity, this government has demonstrated capacity, courage, and commitment.”

They pointed to improvements in infrastructure, including road construction and rehabilitation, as well as investments in security, education, and agriculture, which they said had boosted economic activities and created opportunities for young people.

“Across the length and breadth of Oyo State, the evidence of progress is clear and undeniable,” the groups stated, adding that youth-focused initiatives had made young people “active participants in developmental processes.”

The statement also commended the working relationship between the executive and legislative arms of government in the state.

“We also commend the synergy between the Executive Arm and the Legislature, ably led by Rt. Hon. Debo Ogundoyin. His leadership has ensured legislative stability, cooperation, and the timely passage of policies that support the developmental agenda of the state,” it said.

The youth groups urged the governor to remain focused despite criticisms, noting that “the distractions from certain quarters must not be allowed to derail the good work that is ongoing.”

“The future of our state is too important to be compromised by baseless criticism or politically motivated noise,” the statement added.

They reaffirmed their support for both the governor and the Speaker, pledging to continue backing policies that promote development and unity in the state.

“We reaffirm that all registered youth groups across the 33 Local Government Areas stand firmly with the Executive Governor and the leadership of the House of Assembly,” the statement said.

The endorsement was jointly signed by several youth organisations, including the National Youth Council of Nigeria, the Progressive Tradesmen and Artisans Association of Nigeria, and the Yoruba Youth Council, among others.
