Residents of Ibadan were thrown into panic on Sunday following a fire outbreak that engulfed a residential building, reportedly triggered by electrical sparks and appliances.

The incident occurred at C12, Ajomole Compound, Olukoyi Street, Oja Oba, Ibadan.
The fire incident was a result of an electric switchboard that ignited nearby combustible materials setting a shop ablaze.


Special Adviser to the Governor on Fire Service Reform/Agency Chairman Hon Moroof Adebayo Akinwande confirmed the incident.


He said, the Agency received a distress call and firemen led by CFS Adekola swiftly mobilized and deployed to the scene of the incident.

“Upon arrival, we met a prefabricated shop well alighted and covered with thick smoke.
“No life was lost, as the fire incident was a result of sparks from the electrical switchboard, which ignited nearby combustible materials and set the shop ablaze, only one shop was affected by fire, and the other shops were protected.

Also the agency received another distress call to a fire incident at C.A.C Oke-Ayo, Idi-Obi junction, August area, Ibadan on Sunday 12th April, 2026.
The agency officer led by ACFS Adisa quickly mobilized and deployed to the scene of the incident.
“On getting to the scene, it was a five-bedroom flat on the upper floor of a storey residential building well alighted and covered with thick smoke.
No casualty was recorded and the fire incident was as a result of sparks from electrical appliances when electricity was restored.

The Nigeria Police Agugu Divisional Headquarters and Amotekun Corps from Ibadan North East local government were in attendance for security coverage.
Residents applauded the Oyo State Governor His Excellency Engr ‘Seyi Makinde for providing state-of-the-art equipment to the State fire service in responding to emergencies.

Akinwande further emphasized the importance of regular electrical maintenance and the use of certified wiring materials to prevent such incidents. He also urged residents to switch off appliances when not in use and to install safety devices such as circuit breakers.
