Hon. Prince Oladeji Oparinde, the lawmaker representing Afijio State Constituency in the Oyo State House of Assembly, has commended Seyi Makinde for approving a ₦10,000 transport support package for civil servants in the state, describing the move as timely and people-centered.

Oparinde, in his reaction, noted that the intervention reflects a responsive leadership style that prioritizes the welfare of workers amid prevailing economic challenges. He said the initiative would go a long way in alleviating the burden of rising transportation costs, which has continued to affect productivity across the public service.

The commendation follows the governor’s announcement on Monday during the supervision of the YEAP-SAfER support disbursement and stakeholder engagement programme.

The event was held in partnership with First City Monument Bank and Mastercard at the Fashola Agribusiness Hub in Oyo.

Speaking at the event, Governor Makinde explained that the ₦10,000 transport support forms part of the state government’s broader strategy to address the current economic realities, particularly the surge in transportation costs affecting civil servants and other workers.

According to the governor, the intervention is aimed at cushioning the financial strain on workers while ensuring that service delivery across ministries, departments, and agencies remains efficient and uninterrupted.

He emphasized that the government recognizes the critical role civil servants play in the functioning of the state.

“This support is a direct response to the realities our workers are facing. We understand that transportation costs have gone up significantly, and as a government, we must act to ease that burden,” Makinde stated.

Oparinde lauded the initiative as a practical demonstration of good governance, adding that policies of this nature reinforce public trust and confidence in leadership.

He stressed that supporting workers directly translates into improved service delivery and overall socio-economic stability.

He further described the measure as a clear indication of the administration’s commitment to sustaining worker-friendly policies, noting that such interventions are essential in times of economic pressure.

The Afijio lawmaker also highlighted the importance of the SAfER framework, under which the initiative is being implemented, stating that it provides a structured approach to delivering economic relief and social support to residents of the state.

Governor Makinde reiterated that the transport support scheme will take effect from March, with detailed modalities for disbursement to be communicated through appropriate government channels to ensure transparency and accountability.

Stakeholders at the event expressed optimism that the initiative would bring immediate relief to civil servants and enhance their capacity to meet daily obligations without undue financial stress.

The development has been widely welcomed across the state, with many describing it as a proactive step towards mitigating the impact of economic fluctuations on the workforce.

As the implementation phase begins, observers say the success of the programme will depend on effective coordination and timely disbursement, ensuring that the intended beneficiaries receive the support without delay.

For Hon. Oparinde, the initiative represents more than just financial assistance—it is a reaffirmation of the government’s dedication to the well-being of its workforce and a step toward building a more resilient and productive public service in Oyo State.
