Members representing constituencies within the Oyo Federal Constituency at the Oyo State House of Assembly have called for a thorough and transparent investigation into the recent security concerns arising from an incident involving personnel of the Jobele Divisional Police Headquarters in Oyo town.

The lawmakers made the call following a high-level stakeholders’ meeting convened by the Oyo State Police Command at its headquarters in Eleyele, Ibadan.

The meeting, presided over by the Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, brought together representatives of the affected communities, including youth leaders, traditional representatives, and student union officials, to deliberate on the circumstances surrounding the incident.

During the engagement, stakeholders expressed concerns over the alleged unprofessional conduct of some officers attached to the Jobele Divisional Headquarters. The lawmakers, however, commended the Police Command for its swift response to the situation.

According to them, the immediate steps taken by the Police leadership including the issuance of a query to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), the detention of officers reportedly involved, and the directive for a comprehensive investigation demonstrate a commitment to accountability.

They also acknowledged the directive that the suspect linked to the incident be re-arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

The lawmakers further lauded the decision to assign the investigation to the Nigeria Police Force X-Squad, describing it as a strong indication of the Command’s resolve to uphold professionalism and restore public confidence.

They also welcomed the deployment of additional tactical teams to strengthen the security presence in Oyo town and surrounding communities.

“As representatives of the people, we remain committed to ensuring that the rights, dignity, and safety of our constituents are protected at all times,” the lawmakers said.

They urged the Police Command to sustain efforts towards a transparent investigation and ensure that any officer found culpable faces the full weight of the law.

The lawmakers also appealed to residents of Oyo town and its environs to remain calm, law-abiding, and cooperative with security agencies as authorities continue to work towards maintaining peace and public safety.

The statement was jointly signed by Hon. Gbenga Joseph Oyekola (Atiba State Constituency), Olorunpoto Cephas Rahaman (Oyo East/Oyo West State Constituency), and Prince Deji Oparinde (Afijio State Constituency).
