The incidents occurred on Wednesday 25th February, 2026, at Odelotan’s House, Odefunso Street, Okediji area, Ilora, Oyo.

Heritage Echo gathered that the fire incident occurred as a result of a lit coal pot being left unattended, which came into contact with a nearby combustible substance and set the living room ablaze.

Confirming the development, Chairman of Oyo State Fire Service Reform/Agency, Hon. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande, said firefighters responded promptly after receiving a distress call.

He said the Agency’s officer led by F02 Adeopoju promptly deployed to the scene of the incident.

“On getting to the scene, it was a living room of a three-bedroom at the first flat of a twin flats engulfed by fire.

“The firemen swiftly swung into action and the fire was promptly curtailed and restricted from spreading to the other parts of the building.

However, the fire was caused by a lit coal pot being left unattended, which came into contact with a nearby combustible substance and ignited the living room.

No casualty was recorded, the fire affected only the living room of the building, and officers of the Agency were able to save properties worth millions of naira.

The resident applauded the Oyo State government under the leadership of His Excellency Engr ‘Seyi Makinde for providing state-of-the-art equipment to the State fire service in response to emergencies.

Hon. Akinwande equally urged the public to be conscious of fire every time. He also, emphasized the importance of installing a fire extinguisher in every building to prevent the incident at the incipient stage
