The leadership of the People’s Democratic Party in Oyo State has congratulated the Oyo State House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Edward Adebo Ogundoyin as he successfully rounded up his tenure as the Chairman, Conference of Speakers of the State Legislature of Nigeria.
The PDP takes pride in the numerous achievements of Rt. Hon. Ogundoyin said since the creation of the Party, the PDP has always put its best foot forward in service to the people and this has reflected in the stewardship of Rt. Hon Ogundoyin both as the Chairman of the Conference of Speakers and in his capacity as the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly.
The statement credited to the State Publicity Secretary of the Party, Mr Micheal Ogunsina listed the achievements of the Oyo State House of Assembly Speaker after emerging as Chairman, Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures as the youngest chairman in the history of the Conference, which he noted as a move which symbolised a generational shift which ushered in a reform-driven and inclusive leadership era.
He noted the digital transformation of the state legislature with a partnership with the United Nations Development programme which modernised legislative processes aimed at enhancing transparency, efficiency, accountability and citizen engagement.
The Party also noted the strengthened legislative autonomy which institutionalised the voice of the State Legislature. Under his leadership as the Chairman of the Conference of Speakers, he strengthened the intergovernmental relationship between the Nigerian Governors’ Forum and the Conference which focused on constitutional amendments, governance reforms and democratic strengthening at sub-national levels.
The Conference under Hon. Ogundoyin also intensified advocacy for the implementation of financial autonomy for the State legislature and the contributions of the Conference to the Nigeria’s constitutional review; advocacy for the establishment of State Police, devolution of power to sub-national government, expansion of international and diplomatic engagement with strategic talks with the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria on legislative development and investment opportunities led U.S. Consul General, U.S. Chargé d’Affaires and focused on democratic values, legislative accountability and institutional capacity building and amongst other.
The Party assured Nigerians that despite the challenges, the PDP remains the only Party that has their interests at heart and will continue to present its best products forward in service to the people of Oyo State and Nigeria at large.
