A prominent chieftain and influential leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Atiba Local Government Area of Oyo State, Hon. Adegoke Azeez, has officially defected from the PDP to the African Democratic Congress (ADC). Heritage Echo gathered.

The official defection was held yesterday in L. A Primary School Saabo, Oyo.
Hon. Azeez, who came from Ward One (01) is widely regarded as a grassroots mobiliser and strategic political actor within Atiba politics, until his defection was a key figure in the PDP’s local structure. His exit is seen by observers as a significant political development within the local government.

The former PDP stalwart is a close ally and political associate of the current Executive Chairman of Atiba Local Government, Hon. Wahab Waliu Adetunji, popularly known as WABKEM. He played a strategic role during the Chairman’s successful grassroots campaign in 2024.

Political sources disclosed that Hon. Goke Azeez served as the principal writer and intellectual force behind the campaign manifestos of Hon. Waliu Adetunji, contributing immensely to policy articulation and voter engagement across the local government.
Although reasons for his defection were not officially stated at the time of filing this report, his move to the ADC is expected to reshape political alignments in Atiba Local Government ahead of future electoral engagements.

The defection has continued to generate reactions among party stakeholders, with many describing Hon. Azeez’s political experience and grassroots influence as a major boost to the ADC in Oyo federal constituency.
