The Oyo State Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Barr. Seun Ashamu Temilolu Nurudeen, has reiterated the commitment of the Governor Seyi Makinde-led administration to ensuring a cleaner and greener Oyo State through effective waste management, enforcement of environmental regulations, and sustained public orientation.

Speaking as a guest on Mayor Isaac Brown’s Fresh FM morning program, Barr. Ashamu described the present efforts of the Ministry of Environment as a “silent revolution” aimed at changing people’s culture and attitude towards sanitation and environmental care. He emphasized that just as individuals cultivate daily personal hygiene, the same mindset must extend to the wider society.

According to the Commissioner, the State Government has put in place several measures to tackle indiscriminate dumping of refuse, especially in areas such as marketplaces, residential zones, and public spaces. He disclosed that in August alone, over 750 violators of environmental laws were apprehended for breaching sanitation regulations and indiscriminate dumping.

Ashamu stressed that the government is not interested in mere publicity stunts but in building an enduring system where residents know there will be consequences for violating environmental rules.

“It’s not about noise-making but about results. The rules are there, and government has a responsibility to enforce them. We are determined to sustain this quiet revolution to change people’s mindset,” he stated.

The Commissioner further revealed that orientation programs have been introduced in schools across the state to instill environmental consciousness in young people, describing them as the “future custodians” of a greener Oyo State.

Barr. Ashamu commended Governor Seyi Makinde for his continuous support towards environmental reforms, noting that the present administration is consolidating on the work of past commissioners while also introducing innovative approaches that align with global best practices.

He called on residents to complement government’s efforts by embracing proper waste disposal habits, supporting enforcement officers, and making environmental cleanliness a personal and communal responsibility.
