Scorecard: Oyo Assembly Lawmaker, Babajide Gabriel’s Six-Year Journey; Service, Impact, and Legacy

As the Oyo State House of Assembly commemorates the second anniversary of the 10th Assembly, Hon. Adebayo Babajide Gabriel, popularly known as Jagaban, is also marking his sixth year of dedicated legislative service to the people of Ibadan North Constituency II.

Hon. Babajide, a two-term legislator in the 9th and 10th Assemblies, is being celebrated for his remarkable contributions, people-focused initiatives, and tireless dedication to the principles of public service and grassroots development.

Empowerment Through Employment

Within the last two years of the 10th Assembly, Hon. Babajide has facilitated employment opportunities for over 225 constituents across various government sectors, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to youth empowerment and capacity building. The breakdown of these job placements includes:

  • 50 individuals in TESCOM (Teaching Cadre)
  • 50 individuals in SUBEB
  • 50 individuals in TESCOM (Non-teaching Cadre)
  • 30 Amotekun Corps recruits
  • 10 placements in OYRTMA
  • 10 positions in Primary Health Care
  • 10 placements in Local Government recruitment
  • 5 appointments in Oyo State Civil Service Commission
  • 10 placements in Oyo State Hospital Management Board

Community-Based Projects

Hon. Babajide’s commitment to infrastructural development is evident in the number of projects executed within the past two years. These include:

  • Drilling and commissioning of boreholes in Ade-Love (Ward 12, Agbowo) and Agbaje Ijokondo (Ward 8)
  • Renovation and rehabilitation of boreholes in Ajetumobi (Ward 12, Agbowo) and Ijokondo (Ward 8)
  • Facilitation of Agbowo road rehabilitation through OYRTMA
  • Donation of over 500 blocks, 20 bags of cement, and cash assistance for the rebuilding of the burnt Sango Market, along with government intervention for affected victims
  • Similar donations to support Gbaremu Market after the fire outbreak Empowerment & Welfare Initiatives

His impact also extends to socioeconomic support, including:

  • Cash empowerment of ₦50,000 each to over 50 party members
  • Donation of sewing machines to Bodija and Agbowo Tailors’ Associations
  • Personal empowerment support for Ward 12 residents

Festive Season Support

True to his tradition of giving, Hon. Babajide has consistently supported his constituents during festive periods with rice, rams, cash, and other welfare items during Christmas, Ramadan, Easter, and Eid celebrations.

Legislative Impact

Hon. Babajide Gabriel has also made his mark within the legislative chambers through motions and bills, including:

  • A motion on the urgent need for the rehabilitation of all state and inner roads
  • A bill addressing fire outbreaks and the need for proactive safety mechanisms
  • A bill advocating for the upgrade of the Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) to reduce road accidents

As Hon. Babajide celebrates six years of purposeful representation, his constituents, party members, and political observers agree on one thing — he has redefined what it means to serve with impact, empathy, and results.
