The Chief Whip of the Oyo State House of Assembly and member representing Atiba State Constituency, Hon. Gbenga Joseph Oyekola, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing unresolved internal conflicts within the party as the reason for his decision.
In a resignation letter addressed to the Chairman of the PDP in Ward 06, Agunpopo 2, Atiba Local Government Area of Oyo State, Oyekola said the lingering crisis within the party at both the constituency and state levels had made it increasingly difficult for him to effectively discharge his responsibilities as a lawmaker.
The lawmaker noted that he had remained loyal and committed to the ideals of the PDP since securing the party’s ticket in 2022, which led to his victory in the 2023 general election as the representative of Atiba State Constituency in the state assembly.

According to him, the persistent leadership crisis within the party has created deep divisions that have negatively impacted party operations and his ability to serve his constituents effectively.
“This resignation is made to allow me to focus on the mandate given to me by the people of Atiba State Constituency and to serve them to the best of my ability,” he stated in the letter.
Oyekola also expressed concern over how his decision may be received by his supporters both within and outside Nigeria, assuring them that his next political move would be announced at the appropriate time.
He further requested that his name and details be removed from the party’s register and official records with immediate effect.
His resignation adds to the growing list of political realignments currently shaping the political landscape in Oyo State ahead of future electoral contests.
