The leadership of recognized student bodies in Oyo State has distanced itself from recent reports and circulating images suggesting that student leaders are engaging with politicians, describing such claims as misleading and inaccurate.

In a joint press statement issued on behalf of student structures across the state, the leaders clarified that individuals seen in the reported engagements are largely former student leaders who no longer represent the current student leadership framework or reflect the realities within campuses.

The statement stressed that no official meeting either public or private has taken place between the legitimate student leadership in Oyo State and any political figure. It urged the public to disregard any contrary claims, noting that they are false and do not reflect the position of the organized student constituency.

While reaffirming that student bodies are not apolitical and recognize the importance of engaging political actors to advance student interests, the leaders emphasized that such interactions must be coordinated, transparent, and collectively agreed upon.

They maintained that no such engagement has occurred at this time.

The student leaders also warned against the unauthorized use of their identity or platform to promote political narratives or gain undue advantage, cautioning that the Oyo student community remains too organized and principled to be misrepresented.

They assured that any future engagement with political stakeholders would be formally communicated to the public, adding that only verified statements from recognized student leadership bodies should be considered credible.

The statement was jointly signed by key representatives of student organizations in Oyo State, including officials from FOSSU, NAUS, NANS JCC, and NANS Zone D.
