Properties worth millions of naira have been destroyed following a fire outbreak that engulfed a residential building in Oyo Alaafin township, Oyo State.

The incident occurred at Lane 6A, Gbenga Oyekola Scheme, in the Boroboro area of the ancient town on Wednesday, according to sources.
Heritage Echo gathered that the fire affected parts of the building, consuming valuables and household items estimated to be worth several millions of naira.


Confirming the development, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Fire Service Reform and Chairman of the State Fire Services Agency, Hon. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande, said the agency responded promptly after receiving a distress call.

He noted that firefighters were immediately deployed to the scene, where they worked swiftly to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to adjoining structures.


Akinwande added that personnel of the Federal Fire Service also collaborated with the state team during the operation.
“Upon arrival, we met the last room on the left side of a private residential buildinga four-bedroom flatengulfed in flames.
“Our men quickly swung into action and successfully curtailed the fire, preventing it from spreading to other parts of the building and nearby properties,” he said.
He, however, confirmed that no casualty was recorded in the incident.
Some residents of the area commended the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, for equipping the state fire service with modern firefighting tools, noting that the prompt response helped avert a more devastating outcome.
Akinwande further advised members of the public to remain vigilant and adopt fire safety measures at all times.
He stressed the importance of installing fire extinguishers in homes and offices, noting that early response at the incipient stage of a fire outbreak can significantly reduce damage.
