A Call for Equity in the 2027 Egbeda/Ona‑Ara Federal Constituency Seat

As the 2027 general elections approach, stakeholders and concerned citizens of the Egbeda/Ona‑Ara Federal Constituency have renewed calls for fairness, equity, and adherence to long‑standing rotational principles that guide political representation in the area.

Ona‑Ara’s Turn in 2027

Community leaders reaffirm that the established zoning understanding between the two Local Governments—Egbeda and Ona‑Ara—makes the forthcoming election cycle the rightful turn of Ona‑Ara to produce the next Member of the House of Representatives.

They warn that disregarding this arrangement could undermine the political harmony that has sustained the constituency for years.

Indigene Status as a Key Requirement

Stakeholders further insist that the 2027 seat must be occupied by a verified indigene of Ona‑Ara Local Government. They argue that only a true son or daughter of the soil can fully understand the constituency’s cultural heritage, developmental needs, and ancestral responsibilities.

According to the group, non‑indigenes, regardless of influence or resources, cannot provide the depth of accountability required to safeguard the interests of the communities within Ona‑Ara.

Criteria for Aspirants

The group outlined the following minimum requirements for any aspirant seeking the seat:

  • Must be a verified indigene of Ona‑Ara Local Government, with confirmation from traditional and community authorities.
  • Must have a consistent record of local contribution, not limited to election seasons.
  • Must demonstrate readiness to pursue a home‑first development agenda for the Egbeda/Ona‑Ara axis.

A Notable Contender

Following community consultations and independent assessments, the group identified one aspirant who meets all outlined criteria:

Seye Ebenezer Gbaroye,
People’s Democratic Party (PDP),
Indigene of Ogidi Village, Ona‑Ara Local Government (Ward 4).

They describe him as a credible representative of the equity and homegrown leadership the constituency seeks in 2027.

A Unified Message

Stakeholders call on all political parties—including the APC, PDP, and others—to respect the long‑standing “Gentleman’s Agreement” and ensure that the 2027 ticket reflects both the rotational principle and indigene status.

“2027 is for Ona‑Ara. 2027 is for the Indigene.”
