A trailer conveying hundreds of bags of rice was on Saturday gutted by fire while in motion at Sekona area along the Ogbomoso–Oyo Road.
It was gathered that the incident caused panic among road users and residents in the area, though no casualty was recorded.
Confirming the development, the Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service Agency, Hon. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande, said firefighters responded promptly after receiving a distress call.
According to him, the trailer had veered off the road before it eventually caught fire.
“Upon arrival at the scene, we met a trailer loaded with bags of rice which had swerved off the road and was already engulfed in flames,” Akinwande said.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident, property worth millions of naira was reportedly destroyed when a fire outbreak ravaged parts of a private school in Oyo town.
The fire incident occurred at Bright Star Group of Schools located in the Awumonro area of the town.
Sources disclosed that sections of the school building were affected by the blaze before the situation was brought under control.
The cause of the fire incidents was yet to be officially disclosed as of the time of filing this report.
