A university lecturer in Oyo State has accused Guaranty Trust Bank of failing to safeguard his funds after ₦9.98 million was allegedly withdrawn from his bank account through transactions he insists he never authorised.

The academic, who teaches at Kola Daisi University, raised the alarm in a petition submitted through his solicitors to the management of the bank, demanding the immediate reversal of the disputed transactions.

According to the petition dated February 21, 2026, two separate transfers totaling ₦9,980,000 were carried out from the professor’s account within a short interval on the same day.

Details of the transactions indicated that the first withdrawal of ₦4,990,000 was made at about 10:19 a.m. and transferred to an account belonging to one Isah Ahmed Ahmed via the digital payment platform Paga.
Another transfer of ₦4,990,000 was allegedly executed at about 10:21 a.m. to a different beneficiary identified as Nasir Nasir Sanusi, also linked to an account on the same payment platform.

The professor, however, maintained that he neither authorised nor initiated the transfers, adding that he had no prior knowledge of the transactions until he discovered the debits on his account.

Through his lawyers, the lecturer insisted that he never shared his Personal Identification Number (PIN), token details, or any other confidential banking information with any third party that could have enabled access to his account.

The legal representatives argued that the bank has a duty of care to protect customers’ deposits and ensure that its systems are secure against unauthorised access and fraudulent activities.

Consequently, the professor demanded the immediate refund of the ₦9.98 million allegedly withdrawn from his account.

The lawyers further warned that if the funds are not refunded within seven days of receiving the petition, their client would be left with no choice but to commence legal action against the bank.

They also called on the bank to carry out a thorough investigation into the incident and ensure that the professor’s funds are promptly restored.
