The Executive Chairman of Ibadan North Local Government, Hon. Oluwaseun Olufade, has reaffirmed the unity of Nigeria and emphasized that the nation’s rich cultural heritage remains vibrant and relevant in modern times.

He made this known while speaking as the Chairman of the Occasion at the NYSC 2026 Batch A Stream I Cultural Carnival held at the Oyo State NYSC Orientation Camp in Iseyin.

Addressing corps members and dignitaries at the colourful event, Hon. Olufade noted that Nigeria’s culture is not “old school” but a living heritage that continues to be cherished, celebrated, and passed from one generation to another.

He commended the corps members for their outstanding cultural displays representing various ethnic groups across the country, describing the performances as a clear demonstration that Nigeria remains united despite its diversity.

In his remarks, Hon. Olufade expressed profound appreciation to the Executive Governor of Oyo State, His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde, for the opportunity to serve the people as Executive Chairman of Ibadan North Local Government.

He praised Governor Makinde as a visionary and transformational leader whose commitment to good governance continues to inspire many leaders across the state.

The council chairman also acknowledged and appreciated the presence and support of fellow local government chairmen who accompanied him to the event, including the Executive Chairman of Oluyole Local Government, Engr. Akeem Olatunji; the Executive Chairman of Akinyele Local Government, Hon. Akinwole Akinleye; and the Executive Chairman of Iseyin Local Government, Hon. Fadiran.

Describing the cultural carnival as more than a ceremonial gathering, Hon. Olufade stated that it represents a powerful celebration of Nigeria’s identity, unity, and shared heritage.

He extended special appreciation to the NYSC Oyo State Coordinator, Mr. Kayode Ola Peters, as well as all Local Government Inspectors (LGIs) across Oyo State, for their dedication and efforts in organizing a successful and memorable cultural event.

He also thanked the NYSC leadership for the honour of appointing him as Chairman of the Occasion.

Hon. Olufade charged the corps members to channel the same passion, discipline, and unity displayed during the cultural carnival into their various Places of Primary Assignment across the local governments in Oyo State.

He encouraged them to contribute meaningfully to community development and to serve as ambassadors of national unity throughout their service year.

He concluded by wishing all corps members a peaceful, impactful, and successful service year in Oyo State, urging them to uphold the values of cultural appreciation, mutual respect, and national cohesion.

Hon. Oluwaseun Olufade and the accompanying council chairmen also inspected the ongoing construction of the NYSC 5,000-capacity auditorium within the camp.

The local government leaders commended the scale and vision behind the project, describing it as a landmark development that will further enhance youth development and national service activities in Oyo State.

Speaking on behalf of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Oyo State Chapter, the council chairmen pledged to make additional donations and offer collective support toward the successful completion of the auditorium, reaffirming their commitment to initiatives that promote youth empowerment and national unity.
