Oyo State Fire Service has rescued a 65-year-old Woman from an inferno in Ibadan, Oyo State capital.

Heritage Echo reported that the fire incident occurred in a residential building adjacent to a primary healthcare centre in the Elekuro area of Ibadan on Friday evening.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Fire Service Reform/Agency Chairman, Hon. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande confirmed the incident.

Akinwande in a statement released on Saturday, stated that properties worth millions of naira were destroyed by the inferno.



The victim was rushed to the hospital for proper medical attention.
“On getting to the scene of the incident, it was the second room of a boys’ quarter of an ancient residential building of six rooms engulfed by fire.

“Our officers quickly swung into action and subdued and restricted the fire from spreading to other rooms and the main building.
“A woman of about sixty- five years of age sustained major injuries as a result of excessive smoke inhaled and was conveyed to the nearest hospital,”.
Residents applauded the executive Governor of Oyo State Engr ‘Seyi Makinde for providing state-of-the-art equipment to the firefighters in responding to emergencies.
Akinwande, however urged the public to be conscious of fire, unplugged all electrical appliances when not in use particularly before going to bed at night.
He also emphasized the importance of installing fire-fighting extinguishers in every household in order to curb fire incidents when just started.
