A prominent prince of the Oyo Kingdom, Prince Kolade Afeez Siyanbola Oladigbolu, has led a delegation of royals and well-wishers to Benin City to pay final respects to High Chief Christopher Edebiri, a respected palace chief of the Benin Kingdom.

Prince Oladigbolu, a biological grandson of a former Alaafin of Oyo and first cousin to the incumbent Alaafin, Oba Abimbola Owoade, joined eminent personalities from across Nigeria and beyond at the solemn but colourful farewell ceremony held in honour of the late chief.

The Edebiri family, known for its deep-rooted historical significance, occupies a revered position within the palace structure of the Oba of Benin, where High Chief Edebiri served with distinction and unwavering loyalty until his passing.

His death marked the end of an era for the Benin traditional institution, where he was widely acknowledged as a custodian of culture, tradition, and palace values.

The ceremony attracted an array of royal fathers, high chiefs, princes, cultural leaders, and associates who converged to celebrate a life described as one of honour, service, and integrity.

Among those present were notable figures from the Oyo Kingdom and other parts of the country, reflecting the wide influence and respect commanded by the late chief.

Prince Oladigbolu’s arrival drew significant attention as he made a regal entrance adorned in full traditional Oyo royal attire, symbolising the enduring bond between the ancient Oyo Empire and the Benin Kingdom.

His presence underscored the age-long cultural ties and mutual respect shared by the two foremost traditional institutions in Yoruba and Edo history.

Accompanying the prince were distinguished personalities including Otunba Kayode Oni, Engr. Tolulope Adesida, Prince Adesope Olubuse of Ile, Comrade Olujimi, and several other notable guests, all of whom paid glowing tributes to the late High Chief.

Speakers at the event described High Chief Christopher Edebiri as a bridge-builder, peace-lover, and devoted traditional leader whose legacy will remain etched in the annals of the Benin Kingdom. His contributions to palace administration and cultural preservation were particularly highlighted.

The burial rites concluded with prayers for the repose of his soul, as mourners expressed hope that his exemplary life would continue to inspire future generations.

May the Almighty grant High Chief Christopher Edebiri eternal rest and comfort the family and the Benin Kingdom he served so faithfully.
