Properties worth millions of naira have been destroyed as a result of fire incidents that occurred in Oyo township and a workshop in Ogbomoso axis of Oyo State respectively.


Heritage Echo gathered that the first incident that occurred today at Banikol Hotel, Onireke Street, Ilora, Oyo township, was as a result of sparks from electrical appliances igniting nearby combustible materials and setting the church ablaze in Oyo township.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Fire Service Reform/Agency Chairman, Hon Moroof Adebayo Akinwande confirmed the four incidents.


He said that no life was lost in the incidents.



Akinwande further said, “The church was well alighted and smoke logged, as the fire crew quickly swung into action and the fire was restricted from spreading to the nearby buildings and properties.
“The fire incident was a result of sparks from electrical appliances igniting the nearby combustible materials and setting the church ablaze.

The second incident occurred on Wednesday, at Rain Oil filling station along Ogbomoso/Ilorin Old Road, Ogbomoso, although the investigation was still ongoing to determine the causes of the explosion, as the workshop, cracked walls, shattered POP, and shattered roofing sheet were burnt in the inferno explosion in Ogbomoso.

Hon. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande confirmed the incident.
He said, “The firefighters swung into action using professional technical knowledge to safeguard the place against vehicular and human all safety precautions have been put in place to avert further explosion in the place.
“Further investigation is still ongoing to determine the root causes of the explosion.

Resident applauded the Oyo State Governor, His Excellency Engr ‘Seyi Makinde for providing state-of-the-art equipment to the State fire service in responding to emergencies.

Equally, Akinwande urged the public to be conscious of their activities, particularly the storage of explosive devices, and lay emphasis on the importance of installing firefighting equipment in every commercial place and household.
