The lawmaker representing Afijio State Constituency in the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Oladeji Oparinde, has commended Governor Seyi Makinde for the appointment of Oba Stephen Oparinde Ilufemiloye Gbadewolu I as the Deputy Chairman of the Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs.
Hon. Oparinde described the appointment as well-deserved and reflective of the governor’s commitment to strengthening traditional institutions and promoting inclusive leadership across the state.
The lawmaker also lauded Governor Makinde for inaugurating the Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs after a 14-year hiatus, describing the development as a bold and timely intervention aimed at restoring the dignity, relevance, and advisory role of traditional rulers in governance.
He noted that the reconstitution of the council would enhance peace, unity, and effective collaboration between government and traditional authorities at the grassroots level.
“His Excellency has again shown visionary leadership for recognizing the critical role traditional rulers play in grassroots development, peacebuilding, and community engagement, as well as reactivation of the council to foster better collaboration between the government and traditional institutions.
At the inaugural ceremony held in Ibadan, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, was installed as the pioneer Chairman of the Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs, while Oba Stephen Oparinde Ilufemiloye Gbadewolu I was appointed as the Deputy Chairman.
Hon. Oparinde congratulated both monarchs on their new leadership roles and expressed confidence in their capacity to provide sound guidance, foster harmony among traditional institutions and support the state government’s efforts at sustainable development.
He further reaffirmed his support for Governor Makinde’s policies and initiatives, pledging continued collaboration in advancing peace, progress, and good governance across Afijio Constituency and Oyo State at large.
