A board member of the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB)Hon. Oluwaseun Ololade Oyewo has formally declared his intention to contest the Afijio State Constituency seat in the Oyo State House of Assembly in 2027, using the occasion of a New Year 2026 gathering to unveil his political ambition before party leaders, stakeholders, and supporters.

The well-attended event, held on Friday, 2nd of January, 2026 in his country home, the home of fruit, Fiditi in Afijio Local Government Area, attracted prominent personalities across the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) structure, reflecting growing political interest ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Among dignitaries present were the Board Chairman of the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Hon. Nureni Adeniran, former Chairman of Afijio local government, Hon. Sunday Akindele Ojo(SAO), Chief Akinade, Jagun of Awe, newly appointed OYSIEC board member, Akin Akintunde, all party chairmen, youth leaders, and all the executive members of Afijio local government local executives. Afijio PDP leaders, former party Chairman Hon. Aderinola, New Party chairman, ward executives and local government executives, women leaders, youth leaders, party faithful; and community stakeholders from across the constituency.
The gathering provided a platform for political engagement, unity, and strategic discussions, as party members converged to celebrate the New Year and assess the political direction of the constituency.
Declaring his ambition, Hon. Oluwaseun Oyewo described his aspiration as a divine calling anchored on vision, preparedness, and service to the people of Afijio. He noted that his decision to contest was not accidental but a product of long-term reflection and commitment to grassroots development.
“I’ve dreamt dreams, seen visions, and I have a mission,” Oyewo stated, drawing applause from attendees as he emphasized his readiness to offer purposeful leadership at the legislative level.
He expressed strong confidence in his qualifications and experience, asserting that he is “overqualified” to represent Afijio at the State House of Assembly, given his exposure, public service record, and understanding of governance.
Oyewo also highlighted his current role as a board member of the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), describing the appointment as a valuable platform through which he has gained deeper insight into public administration, policy formulation, and service delivery.
According to him, his experience at SUBEB through its board Chairman, Hon. Nureni Adeniran has strengthened his resolve to pursue legislative responsibilities that will positively impact education, youth empowerment, infrastructure, and social development within Afijio Constituency.
The aspirant pledged to run an inclusive and people-oriented political project, assuring party members of his willingness to subject himself to internal democratic processes.
He however, used the medium to commend the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr Seyi Makinde for allowing him to showcase his leadership skills, insights as well as competence and capacity to deliver democratic dividends.
“I am ready to deliver myself to all the ward executives, local government executives, and the state executive,” Oyewo declared, stressing his respect for party supremacy and collective decision-making.
He called on PDP leaders and stakeholders to maintain unity and focus, noting that cohesion within the party remains critical to electoral success and effective representation.
Oyewo further assured supporters that his ambition is anchored on loyalty to the party, transparency, and accountability, promising to carry every segment of the constituency along if given the mandate.
Several party leaders who spoke at the event commended Oyewo’s courage and openness, describing his declaration as timely and reflective of the PDP’s tradition of nurturing credible grassroots leaders.
They urged party members to continue engaging constructively, emphasizing the need for peaceful consultations and strategic planning as the race for the Afijio Assembly seat gathers momentum.
