Hon. Busoye Ogunlade, Chairman of the Oyo State Road Maintenance Agency (OYSROMA), has lauded Governor Seyi Makinde for rescuing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from aggressors intent on “holding the largest opposition party by the jugular.
In a statement released on Wednesday in Oyo, Ogunlade said the governor demonstrated true PDP spirit by travelling to Abuja on Tuesday to defend democracy at the PDP National Headquarters.
He commended the governor’s courageous act and thanked other PDP governors for standing firm with the party, noting that the successful conduct of the PDP National Convention on Saturday has restored Nigerians’ confidence in genuine democratic leadership.
Ogunlade warned that without Governor Makinde’s swift intervention—alongside his counterpart, Bala Muhammed—at the Wadata Plaza, where the Wike faction unleashed mayhem on party members, the PDP would have collapsed.
He described Makinde as the “true hero of the PDP,” whose collaborative efforts with other well‑meaning leaders have given the party a new lease of life.
He urged the governor not to relent in his fight for democracy in Nigeria and prayed that God continue to strengthen him and other party stalwarts.
Ogunlade however expressed optimism that the newly elected members of the National Executive Committee (NEC) led by Dr Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, will provide credible leadership that will entrench discipline and commitment to the party’s ideals.
Recall that the newly elected national chairman, Dr Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, and the suspended acting national chairman of Wike led faction, Alhaji Mohammed Abdulrahman, had both scheduled NEC and Board of Trustees meetings at the PDP secretariat on Tuesday in an attempt to claim legitimacy.
The tension at the PDP headquarters in Abuja over the parallel meetings led police to fire tear gas as the crisis escalated.
