Heritage Echo Newsroom confirmed that a devastating inferno has destroyed properties worth millions in Ibadan Market.

However, the incident occurred on Monday at Ayetoto Market, Egbeda, Atuba Road, Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.

Special Adviser/Agency Chairman to the Governor on Fire Service Reform, Hon. Adebayo Moroof Akinwande confirmed the incident.

In a statement released and made available to Heritage Echo News, Akinwande confirmed that no casualties were recorded, stressing that the fire incident was a result of electric sparks from an inverter installed in one of the shops, which ignited nearby combustible materials and set the shops ablaze.



He said, Five (5) shops out of nine (9) are affected. Fire personnel led by CFS Adekola ((Mrs) promptly mobilized and responded to the scene of the incident.

“Upon arrival, there were five (5) shops engulfed by fire. Our officers quickly swung into action, subdued, and restricted the fire from spreading to the other shops and nearby properties.

“No casualty was recorded, five (5) shops out of nine (9) were affected and the fire incident was a result of electric sparks from inverters installed in one of the shops ignited nearby combustibles and set the shops ablaze.
The shop owners in the market applauded the Oyo fire service reform for their prompt response to the incident with state-of-the-art facilities provided by His Excellency Engr ‘Seyi Makinde.
Akinwande urged the public to be conscious of fire and emphasized the importance of installing fire-fighting extinguishers in every shop and household to curb fire incidents when just start.
