News reaching Heritage Echo Newsroom confirmed that the Oyo State Fire Service Reform Agency has rescued a 45-year-old man from committing suicide in the Iseyin axis of Oyo State.


Special Adviser to the Governor on Fire Service Reform and Agency Chairman, Hon. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande confirmed the incident in a statement released to newsmen on Wednesday.
Hon. Akinwande stated that the incidents occurred at Oja-Illa Area, Iseyin, on Tuesday.

He said that the man was rescued alive from an electric pole, when he attempted to commit suicide.




He said that the man has been handed over to the personal assistant to the Executive Chairman of the Iseyin local government.
“The Agency’s officers led by ACFS Azeez Muritala promptly responded and deployed to the scene of the incident.

“On getting there, it was a man of about Forty-Five (45) years of age attempting to commit suicide by climbing an live electric street light pole on Tuesday night.

“Our officers quickly swung into action by applying all necessary rescue equipment and the man was rescued alive from the electric street light pole and handed over to the Personal Assistant to the Chairman of Iseyin Local Government.
Residents however, commended the proactiveness of the State government under the leadership of His Excellency Engr ‘Seyi Makinde for giving the firefighters the needed state-of-the-art facilities and equipment in responding to emergencies.
Akinwande further urged the public not in any reason to attempt suicide because it is a criminal offence and attracts punishment under the Nigerian law.
He also commended the officers of the fire service for a successful operation.
