Governor Seyi Makinde has dismissed ongoing protests against the Ibadan Circular Road project as politically orchestrated, insisting he will only engage genuine property owners affected by the development.

Speaking on Wednesday at the official commissioning of the Ibadan Central Bus Terminal on Iwo Road, the governor stated that it was unfortunate that some individuals had chosen to politicize a project designed to bring long-term economic and infrastructural benefits to Oyo State.
In reference to the ongoing protest around the Circular Road project, Governor Makinde made it clear that his government will not be distracted by political theatrics or misinformation. He reaffirmed his commitment to facts, engagement, and progress, noting that governance must be driven by tangible results, not emotional spectacle.

Governor Makinde stated that he would not be meeting protesters at the Secretariat, explaining that:

“Governance is about action, not theatrics. There is no one genuinely employed and committed to work who will abandon duty to protest for three days straight.”
He further assured that, at the appropriate time, he will personally visit the project site with traditional leaders, the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), and other key stakeholders to assess the true situation and engage directly with those genuinely affected.
The Governor’s firm but calm response underscores his reputation as a leader guided by reason, not reaction—one who distinguishes between genuine public concern and politically motivated agitation.

Former president of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, in a brief remark on the criticism against Makinde called on the governor to remain courageous and focused.
He explained that criticism remains part of the public life of a leader who is achieving results. He expressed pride in Makinde’s accomplishments as a governor particularly in the area of infrastructural development.
With landmark projects like the Ibadan Central Bus Terminal and the Circular Road underway, Oyo State continues to advance under a leader whose eyes remain fixed on sustainable development and long-term growth—not distraction.
