The first picture tells a sad story of a once-beautiful road median turned into a dumpsite by residents who carelessly dispose of their waste without regard for the environment. It reflects a worrying culture of neglect and poor sanitation habits that continue to threaten public health, clog our drainage systems, and diminish the beauty of our cities.

But the second picture tells a better story of government’s action, dedication, and commitment to a cleaner and healthier Oyo State. Through the concerted efforts of the Oyo State Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, heaps of refuse that once littered the road median have been cleared, restoring cleanliness, order, and beauty to the area.
However, for this progress to be sustained, every citizen must take responsibility. Cleanliness begins with individual attitude and community cooperation. The government cannot do it alone. Residents are therefore advised to register and patronize approved private waste collectors who are licensed to work in various zones across the state.
These collectors are directly linked with the government to ensure regular and safe evacuation of waste. If you are yet to identify a registered collector in your area, kindly visit or report to the Ministry of Environment — the ministry will help connect you to the designated operator for your community.

It is also important to note that the waste bins provided around markets and public areas are meant specifically for market waste, not for domestic or household dumping. The government ensures that these bins are evacuated regularly to maintain hygiene and prevent environmental hazards. When residents misuse these bins or dump waste indiscriminately on road medians, it undermines government efforts and endangers public health.

Let us all remember that keeping our surroundings clean is not just the duty of government, it is a shared obligation. Treat your environment the same way you treat your body with care, respect, and daily attention. Together, we can make Oyo State cleaner, safer, and healthier for all.
