A Birthday Message from Dr. AKK: Reflection on Oyo’s Future

I am grateful to have lived to witness another birthday. It is a milestone that fills me with immense appreciation for the simple gift of continued existence. I thank Allah for the sound health that has sustained me through the years, allowing me to attend to the demands of life with clarity and vigour.

The love of my family and friends surrounds me; it shields me like a canopy, and it is a privilege I do not take lightly because it reminds me daily of the bonds that make every moment I live meaningful. I don’t see this day as just a mark on the calendar but a chance to pause and acknowledge how far grace has carried me, and how much these relationships have shaped my path. Beyond that, it is a humbling reminder that life is an experience we must all share and truly one I hold dear in all its forms.

It is more humbling to have enjoyed God’s grace this much. It enables me to think logically even when circumstances turn wild, weird, and unpredictable. I find the ability to remain steady amid chaos as a quiet blessing, it allows me to focus on what truly matters. I have been consistent in my thoughts and consideration of people’s welfare, their daily livelihoods, and how to make things better for everyone. I see a lot of challenges. They look somewhat monumental, unequal opportunities, and hardships that linger too long push me to seek solutions that serve the common good. This mindset has guided my actions, it has turned personal reflections into a drive for real change, rooted in the belief that thoughtful effort can truly alter lives.

In the past few years, I have devoted time to understanding what life means to different kinds of people, especially in Oyo State where I call home. I have seen the contrasts; the world of the well-to-do and that of the downtrodden, with a wide gap between them that leaves little room for a true middle class. Unequal opportunities create this divide, and it worries me that my neighbours do not share the same chances as I do, which leads to a sense of injustice that, I think, should not continue. This reality has fueled my aspiration to lead Oyo State, to contribute my intellect and effort in closing that gap and building a more equitable society. It is a responsibility I feel deeply, knowing that progress depends on addressing these differences head-on.

I strive in my little way to provide support to those around me and to motivate them that whatever hardships they face are short-lived. I have been there. I offer hope and encouragement, with the belief that optimism is key to overcoming obstacles. I am a man of hope and high optimism, I have lived with the understanding that the struggles of life are worth it, and we should never tire in pursuing the best available to us. This outlook has kept me going, it has been sustaining in redirecting the trajectory of personal trials into lessons that strengthen my resolve to help others find their way forward.

My aspiration to lead the good people of Oyo State is strongly rooted in a desire to make things work and change the status quo. I have lived with this drive in the past few years, putting a lot of critical thinking into how to achieve it. That is why I put my thoughts together into one book to draw out my vision for the state and how to make it happen. In this book, I outline plans for all sectors and see to it that they are grounded in reality and aimed at genuinely serving the people.

Aside from all these, I have continuously grown the thinking and the belief that the affairs of governance can be handled with less indebtedness. What do you think? Yes, borrowing is sometimes necessary based on economic realities, but I think we can keep it minimal and targeted at growth-focused initiatives that serve the people. I don’t want to share too much. A lot of things are in the pipeline, and I believe they are achievable. I thank every partner in the pursuit of greatness and the emancipation of less fortunate people. The world needs more of us, not just giving handouts or palliatives, but genuine efforts that lead to lasting solutions, including participating in politics.

I will continue to commit my time, intellectual resources, and energy to every worthy cause for people’s welfare. I have lived this way, and I thank everyone who has contributed to my growth—we are on a path to something meaningful, and I hope to continue walking with you all. I look forward to marking more of this day with you.
