Oyo township in Oyo State is grappling with a power disruption caused by a fire that gutted the transformer providing electricity to the ancient town


Heritage Echo gathered that the transformer is beside Isale-Oyo Microfinance Bank, Saabi, Oyo.
The incident occurred on Friday, 17th October, 2025.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Fire Service Reform and Agency Chairman Oyo, Hon Maroof Adebayo Akinwande confirmed the incident.



Akinwande said that it was a sub-distribution transformer belonging to the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) that was ravaged by fire.

He said, “The agency’s officers led by PFS 11 Makinde promptly deployed to the scene of the incident.

“On getting to the place, it was a sub-distribution transformer belonging to IBDEC on fire and our officers quickly swung into action and the fire was extinguished and restricted from affecting other electrical appliances in the sub-station.
“The fire incident was a result of a spark from IBDEC cables which ignited the transformer.
“No casualty was recorded; the fire was jointly extinguished with the Federal Fire Service (Oyo town Command).
“The transformer was slightly affected by fire and fire service was able to save properties worth millions of naira”.
Also, properties worth millions of naira were destroyed as Fire engulfed a residential building in the Fiditi axis of Oyo State.

The incident occurred on Saturday 18th October, 2925, at Agbaakin’s Compound Fiditi Area, Oyo.
It was an ancient residential building of ten (10) rooms engulfed by an inferno while no casualty was recorded.
Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Hon. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande, confirmed the incidents to our correspondence.

He said; “Upon arrival, by fire we quickly engaged our equipment, and the fire was subdued and restricted from spreading to other nearby buildings and properties.
“No casualty was recorded, the fire incident was a result of a lighted coal pot unattended and ignited to nearby nearby combustible materials setting the building ablaze.
The house was severely damaged by fire. The intervention of the fire service saved properties worth millions of naira in the area.
Equally, another devastating fire incident occurred in Ibadan as an ancient residential building of four (4) rooms with three (3) adjoining shops was completely destroyed by an inferno.

The incident occurred at Atipe Junction Areas, Ibadan.
Chairman Oyo State Fire Service, Hon. Moroof Akinwande confirmed the incident to our correspondence.
He said no casualty was recorded, as the firefighters quickly swung into action and subdued and restricted the fire from spreading to nearby residential buildings.
“The Officer’s Agency led by ACFS Bamidele Samsudeen promptly mobilized and responded to the scene of the incident.
“On getting to the scene of the incident, it was an ancient residential building of four (4) rooms with three (3) adjoining shops well alight.

“Our officers quickly swung into action and subdued and restricted the fire from spreading to nearby residential buildings.
No casualty was recorded and the cause of the incident is yet to be established while the investigation is still in progress.
Akinwande further urged the public to be conscious of fire and emphasized the importance of installing fire-fighting extinguishers in every household to curb fire incidents when just start.
