In a bold step to brighten the future of young learners, the Lagelu Local Government in Oyo State has launched an ambitious back-to-school support programme, distributing 50,000 exercise books and 1,000 school bags to primary school pupils. The initiative, which began on October 13, 2025, has already brought joy to children across 20 schools in just two days, with more schools set to benefit in the coming weeks.

The programme, flagged off with enthusiasm, initially reached 10 schools: St. Martin’s (RCM) and IMS in Lagun, Salvation Army School in Ogidi Olu, St. Paul School in Igbaro, St. Peter’s School in Ogunbode, Baptist Day School and HLA in Apatere, IDC in Elesu, St. Paul in Oyedeji, and Salvation School in Apatere. Building on this momentum, the distribution swiftly expanded to include 10 additional schools: St. Andrew’s Primary School in Bamigbola, Alape, Ogo Olode, Kuffi, and Lelero; St. Mathew Primary School in Kutayi; IDC Primary School in Sagbe and Olosunde; and Methodist Primary School in Age and Kiire.

“This is our way of telling these children that their education matters,” declared Mr. Mudashiru Kamorudeen, Lagelu LGA Chairman, in a statement from his office. “We know the challenges families face, and we’re stepping in to make learning easier.”

The initiative prioritizes transparency, with officials verifying pupil numbers at each school to ensure equitable distribution. Teachers have expressed excitement, noting that the programme will boost pupils’ morale and enhance their focus on learning. The school-to-school distribution will continue over the next few weeks, ensuring no pupil in grades one to six is left behind.
