PHOTOS: Fire Razes Ibadan Market and Residential Building, Destroys Properties Worth Millions of Naira

In Ibadan, properties worth millions of Naira have been lost to another fire incident at Ogundipe Market, Agodi Gate area of Ibadan North Local Government on Wednesday.

Heritage Echo gathered that fourteen (14) out of the forty-two (42) shops in the complex were completely razed, thereby resulting in the loss of goods and other valuable properties estimated at millions of Naira.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Fire Reform and Chairman of the Fire Services Agency, Hon. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande, confirmed our correspondence.

He said 14 shops were completely razed down, stressing that no lives were lost.

According to him, “The fire emergency was received through telephoning at exactly 03:50hrs on Wednesday 24th September, 2025, and Mr Sulaiman to shops on fire at the above address.


The fire personnel led by CFS Olayiwola T.K promptly mobilized and responded to the distressed call. Upon arrival, we met fourteen(14) shops out of forty -(42) shops well alight and we swiftly swung into action, the fire was curtailed and restricted from spreading to other nearby shops in the market.

Akinwande further reiterated that the post-fire incident investigation is in progress to ascertain the root cause of the fire incident.

He urged the traders across the state to be conscious of fire and emphasized the importance of having extinguishers in their respective shops to prevent fire incidents when just

Equally, the firefighters responded to a private residential building of four four-bedroom flats and an adjoining two-bathroom flat engulfed by fire at No. 17, Ifesowapo Maternity, Zone 2, Ajoda, Egbeda local government, Ibadan, Oyo state.

The fire incident was a result of an electrical surge ignited from plugged electrical gadgets left unattended.

No casualty was recorded as properties worth millions of naira were destroyed.

Special Adviser on Fire Service Reform and Agency Chairman of Oyo State fire service, Hon. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande confirmed the incident.

He said, “The distressed call was received at exactly 00:42hrs on Wednesday 24th September,2025 through a telephone call, and Mr Onilearo was dispatched to a house on fire at the above address.

“Immediately the address was received, Firemen led by ACFS Adisa were promptly mobilized and deployed to the scene of the incident.

“On getting there, it was a private residential building of four four-bedroom flats and an adjoining two-bathroom flat engulfed by fire. Our officers swiftly swung into action, and it was prevented from spreading to nearby buildings and properties.

“No casualty was recorded and properties worth millions of naira were lost. The fire incident was a result of an electrical surge ignited from plugged electrical gadgets left unattended.

Akinwande further urged the public to always switch off and unplug all electrical appliances while not in use particularly after closing of work in their various workplaces and when going to bed at night to avoid an imminent fire outbreak.
