APC’s Misguided Strategy: Ogogoro Handouts and ill-Timed Rally Expose Party’s Disconnect — Gbade Adeniyi

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has come under fire for reportedly distributing ogogoro to passersby during what they called Solidarity walk sparking concerns about the party’s internal dynamics and campaign strategies ahead of the 2027 elections.

Although there’s no concrete proof that the government is misusing public funds for infrastructure development across the state, it’s evident that some APC members often prioritize publicity stunts over genuine grassroots mobilization efforts.

The state government clarified that the loan in question serves two purposes: N149 billion to refinance an existing loan on more favorable terms, thereby reducing the state’s debt repayment burden, and N151 billion for infrastructure development and contractor financing, which will support ongoing and new projects without disrupting government cash flow.

The loan is expected to fund several key infrastructure projects, notably Phase 2 of the 110 km Rashidi Ladoja Circular Road, which aims to unlock new economic corridors, improve connectivity, and enhance the overall transportation network in the state. This project is likely to have a significant impact on the state’s economy, facilitating the movement of goods and people, and potentially attracting investments and businesses to the area.

Additionally, the loan will support critical infrastructure projects, including, upgrading the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport to attract international investment and drive economic growth as well as constructing feeder roads to enhance accessibility and stimulate economic development across all zones in the state.

These initiatives aim to create a conducive environment for economic growth, attract investments, and improve the overall quality of life for residents.

The party’s strategy appears to be woefully misguided, with the distribution of ogogoro being a particularly tone-deaf attempt to curry favor. Furthermore, scheduling a rally on a Monday seems like a miscalculation, given that it’s a working day when most people are preoccupied with their professional obligations. This lack of foresight and understanding of the public’s needs and schedules only serves to underscore the party’s disconnect from the people they aim to represent.
