Governor Seyi Makinde has officially approved the nomination of High Chief Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland. The announcement marks a significant milestone in the city’s traditional and cultural history.

According to a statement from the Oyo State Government on Tuesday, the governor gave his assent to the nomination following due consultations and confirmation by the Olubadan-in-Council, the traditional kingmakers of Ibadan.

The coronation ceremony has been scheduled to be held on September 26, 2025, at Mapo Hall, Ibadan — the historic venue where successive Olubadans have been crowned.

High Chief Ladoja, a former governor of Oyo State and the Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, will ascend the throne to succeed the late Oba Lekan Balogun, who joined his ancestors earlier this year. His approval as Olubadan is widely regarded as a unifying development, given his stature as both a respected statesman and revered traditional figure.

Governor Makinde described the forthcoming coronation as another testament to the enduring strength of Ibadan’s traditional system. He assured that his administration will provide all necessary support to ensure a befitting ceremony for the new monarch.

“The stool of the Olubadan is one of the most respected in Yorubaland and Nigeria as a whole. With the approval of High Chief Rashidi Ladoja, we look forward to a reign of peace, progress, and unity in Ibadanland,” Makinde stated.

Residents of Ibadan and well-wishers across Yorubaland are expected to troop into the city for the coronation festivities, which will feature cultural displays, royal blessings, and goodwill messages from dignitaries at home and abroad.
