In a bold move that underlines his administration’s proactive stance on environmental and infrastructural development, the Political Head of Sooro Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Badmus Ismail Olaide, has flagged off a strategic dredging project in the Elegbo-Saabo community aimed at mitigating recurrent flooding and restoring efficient drainage flow.

The initiative, described by residents and stakeholders as a turning point, is part of a broader agenda to promote safer, healthier, and more resilient communities across Sooro LCDA. In a statement to Heritage Echo, Hon. Badmus reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to people-oriented governance and responsive leadership.
“Our priority is the welfare of our people,” Hon. Badmus stated during the project inspection. “We cannot stand by while communities like Elegbo-Saabo continue to suffer the devastating effects of erosion, blocked waterways, and seasonal flooding. This dredging initiative is a targeted response to years of neglect, and it reflects our resolve to deliver sustainable infrastructure that meets the needs of our constituents.”

The project, which focuses on clearing key drainage corridors and restoring free flow of water and vehicular access, has been widely welcomed by residents, who described it as both timely and transformational.

Alfa Waheed Boladale of Iludero Zone and Salawu Mukaila Baale of Ipekun, speaking on behalf of the community, hailed the project as a “long-awaited solution” to perennial flooding in the area. “We are overwhelmed with gratitude. This intervention by Hon. Badmus will save lives, protect homes, and improve mobility. For years, we cried out — today, we are being heard. This marks a new era in local governance,” Boladale noted.
The dredging works are designed to extend across major flood-prone segments of the community, with built-in provisions for routine maintenance to prevent recurrence. The project not only addresses immediate environmental concerns but also aligns with Hon. Badmus Olaide’s broader vision for infrastructure renewal, environmental sustainability, and inclusive development within Sooro LCDA.

Community engagement and responsiveness have become hallmarks of the current administration, setting a standard for bottom-up governance and strategic policy implementation.
As Sooro LCDA continues to confront critical development challenges, the dredging initiative stands as a clear signal of Hon. Badmus Olaide’s determination to lead with purpose, act with urgency, and govern with the people at the heart of every decision.
